A fuel tanker reportedly lost control at the UNIZIK Junction of Awka, the Anambra State capital, killing an unspecified number of people.
The tanker crashed into three passenger buses, with one fully loaded. Many people are feared dead. Officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, have arrived the scene and are trying to evacuate victims to hospital.
A source at the scene said the remains of the dead have been deposited at the Anambra State University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, where all the injured victims are also receiving treatment at the same hospital.
A policeman, and an official of the FRSC who evacuated the victims to hospital said many of the injured victims were still unconcious.
